The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse is a premier chamber ensemble. Started in 1997 as a student quartet at the University of Southern Mississippi, the quartet has improved and evolved into a widely renowned chamber group. The Hornsmen have performed at venues such as the 2010 Midsouth Horn Workshop in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the 2009 International Horn Workshop in Macomb, Illinois, and a wide selection of notable colleges throughout the United States, in addition to performing as soloists with the St. Louis Philharmonic Orchestra and the Compton Heights Band. They have competed in and won many chamber music competitions, premiered many new works for quartet, and played countless concerts in public schools to share the quartet repertoire.
The Hornsmen pride themselves in their ability to connect with the audience and break the traditional barrier between the musicians and the listener. They enjoy thrilling and exciting audiences with comedy and overpowering musicianship and technique. They are dedicated to bringing music, knowledge, and humor to children of all ages. They play classical transcriptions of composers like Bach, Mozart, and Strauss, light-hearted numbers and even humorous pieces by composers such as P.D.Q. Bach, Herman Jeurissen, and Lowell Shaw, as well as playing the traditional staples of the horn quartet repertoire.
